Mac Mac Ultra Trail Race in Mpumalanga, South Africa

The Mac Mac ultra race takes place on this part of the North Eastern Drakensberg Escarpment in South Africa at the end of June each year, using the Fanie Botha Trail near the town of Sabie and historic town of Pilgrim’s Rest. This part of Mpumalanga province is renowned for the earliest gold rush, starting in 1872 and leading to the formation of artisan mining. Today the town of Graskop acts as a gateway for tourist and adventure travellers seeking out the beautiful, lush terrain.

Races pass through some of South Africa’s cherished natural geography including God’s Window, a viewpoint over the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve. The Lowveld landscape acts as a backdrop, with rolling trails through indigenous forests guiding each of the distances.
