Immersion Research Union Suit

Immersion Research is a kayaking gear company based in Pennsylvania and run by kayakers, for kayakers. Coupled with a desire to make the best and most innovative kayaking gear is a success story that saw the brand grow from a small backyard company to a major player in the small world of kayaking.

The Union Suit is a one-piece, cold weather base layer made from 29% Greenplus® environmentally friendly polyester, 64% polyester and 7% spandex. The suit features a super stretch collar allowing you to enter the suit via the neck thus eliminating the need for any zips.

The Union Suit is perfect for use under a dry suit or dry cag and trousers combination. The one-piece design ensures complete coverage avoiding the annoying gap that so often appears at the midriff and the super stretch collar means that there are no worries about annoying and uncomfortable zips or buttons. The Thickskin  fabric is a 4-way stretch fleece with a 29% recycled content designed for use in cold weather. On an active river it is enough to keep you warm even when there is snow on the ground, whilst being breathable enough to be perfectly comfortable on warm days. It eliminates the need for bulky and restrictive fleece layers and the extra freedom makes paddling and rolling noticeably easier.

Testing the Union Suit in Norway

The Union Suit, thanks to the one-piece design, is incredibly comfortable and warm. As such it is an absolute must have for increasing the number of days and the number of rivers you go kayaking on. After a drysuit this is the most useful product I have bought in motivating cold water exploration out of season. If you paddle with a dry top and a wetsuit, Immersion Research also offer a range fleece tops of varying degrees of warmth and have an extensive range quality paddling equipment.
