DaKine Pro II Pack
Ross McEwen, March 15, 2011
DaKine is derived from the Hawaiian Pidgin word meaning “the best”. Founded in 1979 in Hawaii, DaKine were primarily innovators in surfing technology. They are now a worldwide brand specialising in backpacks, apparel and accessories for men, women and children.
The Dakine Pro II pack is designed with the backcountry skier in mind. The 2011 model is the latest incarnation of a tried and tested product. It incorporates a number of skier-specific features. It has a retractable ski carry system, which minimizes straps hanging loose when not in use. The quick-draw ice-axe/snow shovel sleeve combined with an external goggle pocket provide access to the things you really need on the mountain.
The DaKine Pro II makes for a comfortable companion; the strategically placed back supports spread the load evenly across your back, even when carrying heavy touring skis. The external shovel mount is helpful, as it serves to minimise clutter inside and makes for easy access in an emergency.
With its myriad pockets and functionality, I found myself using the DaKine Pro II everyday. It can take a 15 inch laptop and I can stow the things I need neatly.
