New York: Fall Cycling in the Catskill Mountains
Will Ross, June 9, 2018
An escape from Manhattan is best done by routing into the Catskill Mountains, north of New York by just 100 miles. The range of elevation makes it ideally suited to proper cycling, a topography that Paul and Russell from Catskills Collective have made the most of by launching a ride-guide-feed operation out of a renovated cabin. I joined for a weekend in May, riding beneath blue skies and fuelled by excellent food from the chef (see trip summary).
October should promise a slightly different backdrop, with Fall colours expected. The same deal applies though: reference “Zafiri” to claim a 20% discount for the weekend October 19th – 21st, based on 2018 prices. Bring your own bike or arrange a rental with Paul and Russell, who will also pick / drop guests from outside Rapha on the Friday / Sunday evenings.
You’ll grab dinner on your way to the cabin and heading out for a long ride on the Saturday and a shorter ride on Sunday. As you can imagine, there’s also plenty of terrain for a short run if you want to make a double session of the Saturday. Swimming might be off-limits at this time of year, however!
Here are the rates per person, taking into account the 20% discount. Note that remaining beds in the Domestique and Team rooms are available for other bookings, so you may be sleeping in the same room as a new friend.
- Private Room (queen bed): $480 single occupancy, $800 double occupancy
- Domestique (pair of king beds): $400
- Team (three twin beds): $360
- Two guided rides with downloadable routes
- Transportation (return trip)
- Prepared meals (two breakfasts, two lunches, one dinner)
- Ride nutrition (energy bars, gels, electrolyte)
