Lundies House from Wildland in Sutherland, Scotland
Will Ross, June 9, 2025

Located in the far north of Scotland in the coastal village of Tongue, Lundies House is a remote outpost from the Wildland Limited hospitality footprint. Mirroring the inclusive bed-and-dinner concept from the Cairngorm Killiehuntly property, Lundies House opened in 2019 to offer a fully catered boutique stay with an emphasis on conservation and access to nature on the now popular North Coast 500 route.
The 19th century manse (church) has been converted with a Scandi-Scot design, with Scottish elements blending with the Scandinavian origins of Wildland owner Anders Holch Povlsen. Designs published on Edinburgh-based Groves-Raines Architects (GRĀS) website point to a condensed footprint with shared communal areas for guests.

Within the main house are three spacious en-suite bedrooms and an exclusive attic-level apartment Flora Room, offering more privacy and space. Beyond the main house are the steadings – the original L-shaped steading (farm outbuildings) have been sympathetically restored and extended to house three contemporary studio bedrooms and a self-contained apartment, The Bothan, ideal for families or small groups. These typically feature exposed brickwork, polished concrete floors, and modern Crittall windows. See bedroom details
Meals are served communally – dinner and breakfast with packed lunches available on request. An honesty bar is available to browse throughout the day, with pre-mixed cocktails judiciously in waiting.
Other facilities include a “nymph pool” for wild dipping, located alongside a yurt sauna (new for Spring 2025).
Training Notes
The Sutherland backdrop hikes the horizon immediately beyond the comfortable Lundies – a challenging frontier for trail runners and mountain bikers. Tackle Ben Hope for ascent, or trails to Castle Varrich for gradual gravel route. Ben Hope offers a vantage point overlooking Loch Hope and Loch Eriboll, and the north coast stretching further west to Durness.

Open water swim is possible at Talmine beach and nearby lochans. Freshwate lochs Loch Royal and Loch Hope are cold even in summer but are options for confident swimmers.
Bookings are handled over email, not via the website directly. Rooms are from £720 per night for two sharing with breakfast and 3-course evening meal. Solo occupancy – £620 per night. Scan availabilities in advance at lundies.scot
