Hotel Riverton in Gothenburg, Sweden

, March 22, 2024

Located equidistant from Copenhagen and Oslo, Sweden’s second largest city embraces all the best hospitality offerings alongside an athletic edge. Hotel Riverton is one of Gothenburg’s design hotels, reflecting boutique elements with a central location 11 minutes from Gothenburg Central Station and Nils Ericson Terminal, departure/arrival point for Flygbussarna from the Göteborg Landvetter Airport.

The hotel has been family-owned and operated since 1991, and has recently undergone a major renovation to include modern amenities with refined finishes. Despite the building accommodating 210 rooms and a full-service restaurant and rooftop bar, Hotel Riverton maintains an intimate feel and westerly gaze over the mouth of the Göta älv (river).

Bedroom types are varied according to size, with Single and Twin rooms included for soloists and colleagues at 14m² and 20m² respectively. Larger Queen rooms are 22m² in size, with Junior rooms roughly 32m² and a unique Deluxe room at 17m² (header image). Premium Junior Suites and the Penthouse are larger still, with full-serviced apartments bookable for group or families. All of Hotel Riverton’s beds are made by DUX and matched with quality linens – a major challenger versus spending time in Gothenburg itself.

The hotel is equipped with a spa, restaurant and rooftop cocktail lounge. Breakfasts are well worth tagging into your reservation – a buffet selection is made complete with a series of health shots.

Training Notes

Runners prepared to toil the winter months are rewarded with year-round running in Gothenburg, with wide pavements and bike/run trails weaving through the city. Jog 4km to the east from Hotel Riverton and you’ll hit Skatås which is much loved by local elite runners – hard-packed gravel trails thread the forest, some of which are lit during the winter to cater to cross-country skiers (you’ll need a studded pair of Icebugs when snowpack is in). Looking for motivation for a long run? Plug in directions to Bertilssons Stuga, a cosy café 10km from Hotel Riverton, when taking the trail on the northern bank of Delsjön Lake.

Road cyclists can get out of town South within 15 minutes, but would be wise to get hold of a mountain bike or gravel ride during the winter (Route). SCSGBG are a Specialized dealer who can organise rentals for both premium road bikes during Summer and Autumn, as well as mountain bikes throughout the year. They’re also the store to go to for group rides.

Swimmers should use the 50m indoor pool at Valhallabadet who are open from 6:30am or 7am until 7pm, seven days each week.
